God created a simple world. All physicists seek simplicity in their theories. All mathematicians vie for it in their expressions. As Einstein put it, "I have deep faith that the principle of the universe will be beautiful and simple". Even us, the not so gifted members of the race, somehow intuitively like the the simpler hypothesis better than the more complicated ones. And yet we are unable to understand that happiness in life could be so simple!
When it comes to happiness somehow the most convoluted path appears to the best one. Happiness is always a thing belonging to distant future and the journey to it is shrouded with various conditions becoming true. We make a simple thing more complicated than it deserved to be, and here is where we miss the point. Happiness is a state function, and like all state functions (think internal energy U) its value depends only on the initial and final state of the mind. There is not a certain path to happiness and even if there was it would be as good or bad as any other.
